The married couple is hosting filmmaking and music camps for kids at their home on Bert MacLeod Rd. this summer, with complete self expression as their main goal for their students.

"Im going to give the kids the tools, but I dont know where theyre going to go with it," said Fresia about his first music camp July 23-27. "We want to let them express themselves, rather than having them express what we want them to do. Its not like theres no direction, but youre trying to encourage them to bring out their own expression."

Fresia, a 10-year singer/songwriter said his music camp will involve learning some basics about music, writing songs, recording, learning to interact with band mates, and finally performing for friends and family at the end of the five-day program.

"Itll almost be like school of rock, if you can imagine that," he said.

Bussiere, a self-employed filmmaker, has been running her camp from their home for four years. Her camp involves an introduction to the basics of making a film, scriptwriting, shooting video, and editing before the final presentation to the students friends and family at the end.

She used to teach a film camp in Halifax, but said to have it at her home is a much better experience for the kids.

"When I did it in Halifax, the problem was the students would have so much to do and theyd be sitting and listening and be bored to death and itd be sunny outside" Bussiere said. "Here, they can go for a swim or whatever then be fresh and ready for more."

Both camps are very similar in style in that theres a lot involved, but the main focus is to relax and have fun.

Bussiere holds two sessions, one from July 30 August 3 and another from August 6-10. The first camp is full, but the other is still wide open.

Both the music and film camps are limited to eight to 10 students. Theyre open to kids aged 10 to 15, but they said theres flexibility with age. The cost to enroll is $300.
