CUMBERLAND COUNTY Bored in Oxford, Pugwash, Springhill, or Amherst this summer? Maybe a Showcase Productions summer musical theatre camp is for you?

The non-profit musical theatre group will be back in the above communities this summer to hold workshops for children aged six to 13.

They had a successful trial run in Pugwash two years ago before expanding to Oxford and Springhill last year. Good turnouts prompted a return to all those communities this year.

The camps, to be instructed by Kyle McDavid and Beth Weatherbee, will teach kids vocal techniques like how to breath on stage and how to sing, how to act, and proper stage movement. To sum it up, its a crash course on how to prepare for an audition.

Were showing them how to prepare for an audition while were teaching them a little bit of acting, a little bit of music, and little bit of dance, MacKay said.

He also said the program is a great way for kids to build social skills. He noted one autistic child in one of the camps last year.

This young boy has come out of his shell incredibly, he said. When he first came to us he sort of sat in the corner and watched everybody else do things and he has come so far that in our last production he stood up and did a solo. You cant imagine what a tremendous accomplishment that was, not only for him, but also for us.
