ARHS meets James Bond

AMHERST If James Bond were to talk into Amherst Regional High School on Tuesday evening, his surroundings would likely seem strikingly familiar.

Thats because the ARHS prom committee has been working diligently over the last few weeks to bring together this years prom theme, 007, based on the 2006 action movie Casino Royale.

While the gun violence thats made 007 movies continuous box office hits will likely be at a minimum, prom committee advisor Susan Hiltz expects students will have just as much fun with this James Bond theme as fanatics do watching the on-screen mayhem.

"Whats nice about this theme is that some themes are very feminine, but this is both. Its a happy theme for both boys and girls," Hiltz said.

The schools atrium will be transformed into a full-fledged casino, complete with giant hanging playing cards. Walk into what was once the cafeteria and youd see what will be a fancy ballroom-esc "black tie" restaurant.

Hiltz said its typical now to make the prom more than just a glorified dance. She said the play money casino will give students more options on how to spend their special night.

"It gives them something else to do for the evening. They can dance, then they can come out and cool off and have a few laughs and then go back in and dance," she said. "It gives them a variety and hopefully theyll stay most of the night."

Prom committee co-head Tiffany Davis said the committee had to make a quick change of plans in the last few weeks. They were set on a carnival carousel theme, as voted on by the grade 12 students, but for some reason the idea wasnt well received. Basically at last minute, the group changed to the 007 theme and things all fell into place.
