Selected liquor stores to open Sundays

AMHERST  Getting suds on a Sunday just got easier.

The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation has announced the Superstore mall liquor store will be open on Sundays beginning July 8. Those shopping at agency stores in rural communities will be able to purchase beer, wine and spirits beginning this Sunday.

The store will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Its the lone county store that will open on Sundays.

The NSLC is opening stores based on a business analysis that has looked at each store's ability to add incremental sales while balancing regional needs. The list may be adjusted seasonally as necessary.

Staff will be scheduled according to terms of the collective agreement, and no staff will be required to work Sundays if they do not wish to do so.

The incremental profit generated by Sunday openings will be transferred to the government for expenditures in areas such as health care, education and roads.
