Players bringing Abide With Me to Capitol stage

OXFORD If you like Monty Python then youll like this.

The Anglican Churches of All Souls in Oxford and St. George in Pugwash are presenting The Sunday Best Players in Abide With Me, a production written by Wendy Hunter and directed by Eric Mosher set to be performed Wednesday, June 6, and Thursday, June 7, at 8 p.m. at the Capitol Theatre.

The play is set in a funeral home that has fallen on hard times, so the owners decides to offer something new, that being in the form of vacuum cleaner repairs. Hilarity ensues.

Hunter has no idea why she came up with this weird combination of the ideas for the play.

Because my brain is sickI dont know, she said with a laugh. Im a long time fan of Monty Python and stuff like that.

Mosher and Hunter have worked together before. They collaborated on a play about Oxfords history for the bicentennial in 1991. Hunter hopes this play receives a similar audience reaction to the 1991 production.

If its anything like we did last time, well have them rolling in the aisles, Hunter said. Its going to be a real hoot.

Both Hunter and Mosher think you should attend because youll have fun while supporting a good cause, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Primates World Relief and Development Fund, an initiative to rid the world of AIDS.

Theres a lot of slapstick humour in it, Mosher said. (People) will have a good time. Its supporting a good cause and its supporting local theatre.
