Via Rail is providing the complementary trip to about 50 people including students at the rural school, community volunteers and local war brides who greeted the official War Brides Train when it passed through Westchester Station last November.

Its a thank you from Via Rail and the employees at Via Rail to the community for supporting the War Brides Train and the Veterans Train when it passed through their community the year before, said Peggy Topple, Via Rail employee.

Its small communities like that that are the heart and soul of Canada.

This morning, the Tim Hortons Childrens Camp bus will pick up the travellers at the school and deliver them to Pier 21 in Halifax where they will tour the museum and participate in workshops.

Our children are very excited about going, said school principal, Lori Garrett.

I really hope that theyll be able to make some small connection with the war brides and understand how they felt when they arrived.

After Via Rail provides lunch for their guests, they will board a passenger train and ride to the Truro station, arriving around 2 p.m.

Cumberland-South MLA Murray Scott and Paul Cote the CEO of Via Rail will also be aboard the train.

Topple said this is no ordinary train ride and guests can look forward to some special entertainment along the way.
