AMHERST – HMCS Acadia, Canada’s largest sea cadet training centre, has recently graduated an Amherstonian from its two-week general training course.

Jaycee Hawkes is one of the Cornwallis sea cadets and during the course she played music, learned how to carry a flag on parade, sailed small boats, visited a Sea Cadet Training Vessel, and participated in biathlon.

Aside from training, Hawkes had time to go the movies and make new friends. At home she is a member of 258 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps in Amherst, N.S.

HMCS Acadia is one of five Cadet Summer Training Centres in Atlantic Canada, and sees Cadets from all over Canada and abroad take part in music, sailing, seamanship, and fitness.
