Internationally renowned signer and Springhill native Anne Murray visited the Anne Murray Centre in Springhill to sign some books and greet fans.

SPRINGHILL – A massive crowd gathered at the Anne Murray Centre today for Anne Murray Day and a chance to get a photo and speak to their favorite country singer.

“I come up every year. She’s my top notch idol, my favorite female country singer,” said Judy Coady, who traveled from Truro for pictures and a ‘hello’.

“She actually performed at my high school for festival once. Driving out to see here is a bit long, but I don’t mind at all.”

Murray said the center is her way of giving back to her hometown.

“It’s near and dear to me, and people should always give back to my communities. I’ve been very fortunate, and Springhill can use all the help it can get.”

The centre does a service to the community, said manager Francis MacDonald.

“She’s an international artist, yet she still considers this her home. This building has supported the community and opened us up to the world a little more.”

Anne Murray is awesome and always has been. Smart, talented, beautiful and giving, she has never deserted Springhill and the people.

As a former Springhiller I take exception to any off color remarks about Anne. She has achieved the very highest level in show business and assisted any way she could to helping the town. We are very proud to say she is from our town and she deserves the fan support she has from around the world.

She must be looking to bum some more government money to prop this loser up or beating the drum about wind power and how bad it is.
