RCMP Constable Dal Hutchinson operates the small patrol boat being used to keep watch on the Pugwash Harbor and make sure boaters are properly equipped and driving safe.

PUGWASH – The RCMP aren’t limited to roads during Harborfest in Pugwash, and are out doing boat patrols to make sure those on the water are safe and secure.

“Just to make sure people are practicing boating safety,” said RCMP Constable Dal Hutchinson.

“We’ve been very fortunate we’ve never had any big incidents. It’s mainly to advise people to stay safe. And the more people see us out here, the more they like the fact we’re out here keeping people advised.”

The officers ask all boaters to keep the proper safety equipment aboard, including life jackets and bailers, and also that those operating the boats refrain from driving under the influence.
