Styles Stadler, winner of the skateboard competition held by the Amherst Youth Town Council on Saturday, shows off a trick to one of the judges.

AMHERST – The youth of Amherst came out today for this years Youth Festival hosted by the Amherst Youth Town Council.

It started with the Youth Amazing Race, where teams of two go through checkpoints in Amherst for the first prize of two Kobo readers and YMCA memberships. The winners were Regan Collins and Adele Mansor.

After the race there was a skateboarding competition at the Amherst Stadium. Styles Stadler took the first place prize of a $50 gift card to Dayles, Joe Lessley claimed second place and a $25 gift card to Wallmart, and Gary Downey skated to third place for a $10 card to Subway.

Organizer Jenn Borne said she's glad with how things worked out.

“We were really pleasantly surprised by all the turn out. It’s been a really fun day."
