AMHERST – It’s time for youth in Amherst to get away from the televisions and into the streets for this year’s Youth festival on Saturday hosted by the Youth Town Council.

Among the activities this year are a barbeque, a battle of the bands, and a skateboard competition.

The grand event, however, is the Youth Amazing Race, where teams of two youth from grades 7-12 race through the 14 challenge checkpoints throughout Amherst for prizes, including 2 Kobo electronic readers.

Coordinator Jenn Borne says the main goal of the event is to show youth how to engage in their community.

“We want to positively engage youth and focus on physical fitness while bringing awareness to public places where they can go to be active.”
