Stephen McNeil says he’s feeling encouraged by the support he’s receiving across the province. He visited Pictou with Pictou West candidate Glennie Langille Wednesday following campaigning in Antigonish. AMANDA JESS – THE NEWS

PICTOU – Stephen McNeil was in Pictou County Wednesday, following campaigning in the Halifax area and Antigonish.

He stopped by Sharon’s Place restaurant in Pictou with Pictou West candidate Glennie Langille.

“I’m encouraged by the support we’re receiving across the province,” he said about how campaigning is going.

During a New Glasgow visit this week, Premier Darrell Dexter mentioned the Liberal party’s plans to amalgamate health authorities across the province.

Dexter suggested this move would take the community voice out of health care.

In response to Dexter’s comments, McNeil said he wants to be rid of the status quo, while the New Democratic Party seems to be satisfied with it.

Under Dexter’s leadership, he said, wait times for surgeries and in emergency rooms have increased.

“Let’s do this better,” he said, adding they would still protect nurses.

The Liberal party has promised to reduce the number of district health authorities from 10 to two if elected.

This was McNeil’s second visit to the county during the campaign.

The Liberals have provided absolutely no detail in their platform. Actually it's barely a platform. I haven't any idea what they will do if they get into power. And that includes Ms. Langille.
