SACKVILLE, N.B. – Festival by the Marsh is once again venturing back into producing one of Shakespeare's works during the summer, this year in the form of a staged reading of the play Antony and Cleopatra. The staged reading will be presented on July 11 and 12 outdoors, and 10 actors will receive $75 honorariums for their participation in it.
"A staged reading is a really fun way to do a play", said artistic producer Ron Kelly Spurles. "The actors hold scripts in their hands, but they're very familiar with the play and can puts lots of energy and emotion into it, and make it very clear and entertaining for an audience."
The Festival is very excited to have former Hubcity Theatre artistic director Robin Oxley directing the play. Robin has an extensive background in theatre and in directing Shakespeare, including the very successful 2013 version of "Romeo and Juliet" at Tantramar Regional High School. The Festival is planning to return to producing full-scale versions of Shakespeare's plays in 2015.
Auditions will be held on Thursday, June 12 from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Saturday, June 14 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Swan Pond Park, near the Mount Allison Convocation Hall. Anyone interested can reserve a time by calling 536-3576 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. They will be asked to read from a script.
