Tantramar IODE to celebrate International Women’s Day

Tantramar IODE Report

Fifteen IODE Tantramar Chapter members met on March 3, 2014 at the Amherst First Baptist Church for their regular meeting.

After welcoming everyone, President Wanda St. Peter opened the meeting with the IODE prayer and motto repeated in unison. 

Jean Harrison, secretary, read the February minutes which were approved. President, Wanda St. Peter reviewed the Chapter By Laws for 2014 which were approved.

Treasurer Dot Arthurs presented the 2014 proposed budget which met with the Chapter’s approval.

Motion made and approved designated money for the Provincial Education fund, National Snack Pack Program and Amherst Pre-School.

The Annual Provincial Meeting will be held at Park Place Hotel in Dartmouth on April 24 and 25. Several members expressed their plans to attend.

Dodie Dickinson, Ways and Means, reported that spring clothing will be available at Thrifty Things Shop. 

As March 8 is International Women’s Day Citizenship, Shirley Oram, read an article about women who struggled for and worked towards women’s rights. 

Sheilia Pipes pointed out that in 1900 Margaret Polson Murray of Montreal encouraged the formation of a federation of women to promote patriotism, loyalty and service to others.

This was followed by the first chapter, Federation of the Daughters of the Empire, was formed in Fredericton, N.B. on Jan. 5, 1900.

It was agreed that membership convenor, Treva Hebb obtain a cake for April in honour of Founders Day

Ruth Trenholm, hospitality thanked hostesses, Grace Scott, Jean Harrison and Jean Henley for their early St. Patty’s day shenanigans.

Members were asked to wear their Easter bonnets to the next meeting on April 2nd.
