River Hebert and Area News
Condolences are sent out to Ruby A. Smith of River Hebert who passed away on Saturday, January 11 at the Cumberland Regional Health Center. She was 89.
“I am happy to have been invited to and attend my first SST (School Steering Committee) meeting for the RHDH (River Hebert District High school) Renovation Project this afternoon as SAC (School Advisory Committee) chair,” stated Janice Mills on January 13. “Dora Construction's ‘hard start’ will be January 20 with the erection of a fence so the digging can start to lay the foundation for the new addition (elementary wing). The newly constructed addition is set to be turned over for Sept. 2014, at which time it will act as the swing space for the RHDH students during the renovation of the existing RHDH structure. Cap on completion of both phases (new construction and renovation) of the project is May 22, 2015.That summer break will serve to deal with any outstanding issues that may require tweaking and allow time to ensure all is ready and in working order for the next school year. September 2015 is set to have the elementary students moved from their existing school to their newly constructed wing of River Hebert’s P-12 school, and grades 7-12 moving back into their newly renovated section.”
Updates on the school’s progress will be provided from time-to-time by visiting the People for Progress on/Completion of RHDH P-12 Renovation Facebook page:
Congratulations are sent out to River Hebert’s Kyle Hurley and the rest of the Cumberland County Amherst Fire Department Atom AA Ramblers on recently capturing the 40th annual Riverview Blues Minor Hockey Tournament banner.
Last week, I received a nice e-mail from CBU author Caroline Stellings regarding my review of her new book The Manager for a recent edition of my Friday Amherst News book review column. “Just a quick word of thanks for your kind (and well-written) review of The Manager which will appear on the 17th,” stated Stellings. “A copy was forwarded to me by the press. I've had a particularly lousy time lately. In my part of Ontario, we were without power for 2 weeks recently, and I had to live like a pioneer, gathering snow for water and cutting wood. At any rate, seeing this review that you have written has been a bright spot, so thanks very much.” You are very welcome Caroline. It never gets old to receive positive praise about the quality of my writing and that it is a source of inspiration to some people.
Finally, I would like to wish Irene Hebert, who provides me with card party results, a very happy belated birthday. Irene Hebert celebrated her birthday on January 14.
