The Amherst Lioness Held their first meeting of a new Lioness Year in September with Queen Lioness Shawnie Kinnear chairing the meeting.

Correspondence consisted of letters of thanks for donations made at our closing meeting in June.  Lioness Shirley LeBlanc and Lioness Diane Scott reported on the preparations for the upcoming Fall Fair.

Committee reports were presented and the Lioness were notified of the Drug Awareness program to be held in November for school children. There are to be 12 stations with information and the Club was asked to prepare lunch for the volunteers at this program.  It was moved and seconded that the Lioness would provide lunch.

It was noted that our club would continue to give our monthly donation to the Amherst Food Assistance Network.

During the meeting in October, Lioness Marg MacDonald spoke about the breakfast program at a local elementary school.

The Fall Fair committee gave a final report and this event will be held in November.  Vendors are in place and the Lioness were asked to provide baking for our Bake Table and items for the Christmas Basket for the raffle.  T

he Lioness were approached to pack 20 Christmas boxes for children in Third World countries.  It was decided that we would do this project. Lionesses Bonnie Curry, Judy Tooke, Cheryl Riley and Karen MacIsaac prepared these boxes. Thanks to these Lioness for completing this project.

At our November meeting, a financial report regarding the Fall Fair was given by Lionesses Shirley LeBlanc and Diane Scott showing a successful project. This committee was thanked for their efforts.

A number of requests for assistance were discussed.  It was decided to make donations to the following:  Amherst Community Christmas Dinner, Light the Way, Movember, Christmas for Kids, Salvation Army, and the Amherst Food Bank Network.  A total of $1,800. was donated at this time.

In December the Lions invited the Lioness to join them in carolling at four Nursing Homes in the Amherst area.  A number of Lioness joined them in this enjoyable project.

A number of Lioness assisted the Lions at the Toy Bingo for the Bright Beginnings Daycare.  For our Christmas meeting a delicious meal of various salads and dessert was enjoyed at a local restaurant.

This was a very enjoyable meeting and at this time it was decided that the Lioness would have a Secret Santa project for some of the less fortunate in our community.

At the close of the evening, each Lioness was presented with a gift by Lioness Bonnie Curry.  Queen Lioness Shawnie Kinnear extended Season’s Greetings to all with a wish that each Lioness would have a wonderful Christmas blessed with family and friends.
