The Back Fence with Linda Baker

The East Mapleton-Leamington Sewing Circle held their monthly meeting on Nov.4 at the home of Marlene Millard, Mapleton.

President Ruth Foster presided over the meeting. Roll call was answered by nine members. We were pleased to have Dorothy Harrison, Halfway River, joining us. The devotional, entitled "Autumn, a Season for Transformation," was given by Rev. Marion Lloy. The poem "In Flanders Fields" written during the First World War by Canadian Physician and Lieutenant Colonal John Mcrae in 1915, was read by Betty Harrison.  Linda Baker's minutes from the last meeting were read and approved. Treasurer Marlene Millard reported a good balance. There was a lengthy discussion on our Christmas projects, such as remembering the sick and shut ins, helping local organizations with buying Christmas turkeys, and the Toys for Tots program. Donations will be made.  Emily Gallagher was reported as not enjoying good health and a card was sent to her.  The evening's project, a Variety Auction, realized $104.25. Tasty refreshments prepared by hostess Marlene and Rev. Lloy, assisted by Ruth, brought a very pleasant evening to a close. Mystery parcel went to Ruth. Lucky prizes went to Betty Harrison, Dorothy Lavers and Dorothy Harrison.

The Christmas meeting will be held at the home of Linda Baker on Dec. 2. Storm date Dec. 3. Project: Christmas Auction.
