PUGWASH – Kelly Sloan and Ryan Cook are coming together again for a concert at Pugwash’s Chatterbox Café on Nov. 30.

The show runs from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 and area available in advance or at the door.

As a classically trained singer, a native of the musically lush Ottawa Valley and as someone who spent a third of her life in the eclectic Halifax music scene, Sloan is undoubtedly hard to label. Her music has been described as “soul-infused folk,” “Canadiana flare,” and “country-roots rock.”

Her two studio albums, Always Changes (2008) and her self-titled album (2010), offer a unique balance of old-time simplicity and a unique and earnest depth of emotion.

Since re-planting her roots in the Ottawa music scene, she has recieved a Galaxie Rising Stars award for the 2012 Ottawa Folk Festival, headlined the esteemed Folkus Concert Series, and has been designated by Mark Rheaume as an up-and-coming Canadian artist to be on the look out for.

Her blossoming career in Halifax saw her performing at Anne Murray’s book launch, showcasing at the ECMAs and also featured on Warner’s Atlantic Voices – A Collection of Women Singer-Songwriters.

Blending the nostalgia of classic country music with modern satire, Cook has developed a progressive style of country, both traditional and innovative, from country jazz to bluegrass.

His 2008 debut LP, Hot Times, was awarded Country Album of the Year at the Nova Scotia Music Awards, nominated at the East Coast Music Awards and named 8th best Canadian Country Album of 2008 by Country Music News.

Peaks and Valleys followed, taking home 2010 Country and Bluegrass Album of the Year from Music Nova Scotia while receiving top honours with Country Music News as the 2010 Album of the Year in Canada.

Cook is back this year with his third release, Wrestling with Demons.

Having performed over 700 shows since 2007, Cook has shared the stage with Dwight Yoakam, Rosanne Cash, Sammy Kershaw, Steve Poltz, Brandi Carlile, and Joel Plaskett.

In 2011, Ryan toured with Travis Tritt as the opening act on his 2011 acoustic tour in Canada. Ryan has showcased in Nashville at both Music City Roots and the Ernest Tubb Midnight Jamboree and performed over 30 theatre shows as Hank Williams in the Maynard Collins play, The Show He Never Gave.
