If you missed making a good spring cleaning, this fall will provide an opportunity to safely discard a series of hazardous household materials.
The City of Swift Current's 2013 Household Hazardous Waste Day will be hosted on Sept. 28 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the City Hall parking lot (177 - 1st Ave. N.E.)
Envirotec and the Swift Current Fire Department will once again work together to collect and recycle Household Hazardous Waste Materials from citizens of Swift Current and surrounding areas. Last year's event had items dropped off by 105 vehicles.
The following hazardous waste products will be accepted at the event:
Adhesives - contact cement, caulking, sealer, carpet and linoleum adhesives, glue.
Aerosols - hair spray, insect repellent, lubricant spray, furniture cleaner.
Automotive - used engine oil, used engine oil filters, antifreeze, batteries, carburetor cleaners, oil fuel, windshield cleaner.
Batteries - automotive, cellphone, dry-cell, NiCad, lithium, alkali, lead-acid.
Cleaners - oven cleaner, toilet bowl cleaner, glass cleaner, spot remover, disinfectants, car wax.
Corrosives - drain cleaner, engine degreaser, ammonia, battery acid, sulfuric acid.
Fuels - gasoline, diesel, kerosene, lamp oil, oil/gas mixture.
Mercury - mercury, thermometers, thermostats, fluorescent tubes, compact fluorescent lights (CFLS).
Oxidizers - chlorine, bleach, pool chemicals, fertilizers, hydrogen peroxide, septic tank chemicals.
Poisons - lawn, herbicides, garden chemicals, rat poison, gopher killer, insecticides.
Pharmaceuticals - old prescription drugs, medicines (no sharps or biological waste).
Propane Cylinders - barbeque cylinders, camp cylinders
Solvents - paint thinner, acetone, varsol, alcohol, benzene, xylene, naphtha
There are no used paints or paint cans accepted at this waste collection opportunity, as these items are now accepted at the SARCAN Recycling Depot located at 995 Cheadle St. W.
