Relay for Life team raising funds
Spring greetings newspaper friends. We’ve made it through the last official month of winter. I for one, am not sad to see it go. I’m looking forward to some warmer temperatures. At this point I’m even looking forward to yard work. That will pass with the first set of raking blisters, I’m sure.
Relay for Life events are coming up soon in Parrsboro and Amherst. This is a wonderful event that allows participants to celebrate cancer survivors, remember and honour loved ones lost to cancer and fight back against all cancers.
Amherst’s relay will be June 3 and Parrsboro’s relay is set for June 10. Some very special Southampton ladies have formed a group which has entered the Parrsboro event. The Cougars for the Cure will be busily fundraising in the next few weeks so please try to support them in any way you can.
On April 23, The Cougars will be hosting a dance at the Parrsboro Fire Hall from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The cost of admission is $10 with all proceeds going to the relay. The band Robin and The Next Eclipse will be playing. On May 7, the ladies are hosting a Women’s Wellness Fair at the Parrsboro legion.
There will be something for everyone with many vendors representing physical and mental health, crafts, catering, shopping, charities and much more. Many vendors will be providing demonstrations as well. This event is running from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and admission is just $5.
On May 28 there will be a community wide yard sale at the Southampton Community Center. Anyone is welcome to rent a table for $5 or if you’d like to donate items for the Cougars, contact Denise Dickinson at 546-2420 or Carissa Atkinson at 546-2303.
If you would like to donate your extra bottles to the cause, drop them off at 311 Highway 302 or call Trish or Natasha Goodwin and they will pick them up. In addition to all of these events the ladies are also selling tickets on an 8 GB Ipod Touch, and also on a Mother’s Day Basket valued at $500. You can pick up your tickets at the Southampton post office. For more information on any of these activities, contact Denise Dickinson, Carissa Atkinson, Crystal Hoeg, Rachael McLellan, Crystal Goodwin, Tracy Smith or Trish Goodwin.
I would like to congratulate two special young ladies from our community. Hannah Dickinson will be competing in the 2011 Canadian Chess Championship in Victoria on May 19-23. Good luck to you Hannah! And Morgan Dickinson recently obtained her brown belt in karate. Congratulations Morgan!
I love bragging about Southampton’s talented young people. Please email me any news you would like me to share at email@example.com or call me at 546-2021.
