Welcome to the CREDA File, a monthly column on economic development issues and activities in Cumberland County from the files of the Cumberland Regional Economic Development Association.
CREDA is a one-stop “resource centre” for business development in Cumberland County. Although CREDA is not a lending agency, staff has a solid working knowledge of the various lending partners and programs.
Planning is a key element for any successful business and absolutely essential for start-up businesses requiring financing. CREDA offers clients a business start-up package that outlines the business plan process, and includes information about several loan programs and resource partners. Export start-up packages are also available for business owners looking to do business in other countries.
CREDA has partnered with a third party service provider, YLM - Your Local Marketplace, to offer the Cumberland County “Online Business Directory.” This directory is the most comprehensive and up-to-date online database of Cumberland County businesses to be found anywhere. All Cumberland County based businesses are provided with a basic listing that includes contact information, a brief marketing message, searchable key words, a locator map, services icons, hours of operation and website link. These listings showcase our businesses locally, provincially and internationally across the Internet. To access the online business directory please visit www.creda.net/business/ directory.html.
Coordinated by NSARDA (Nova Scotia Association of Regional Development Authorities) and delivered across Nova Scotia by the RDAs, the Business Retention and Expansion program (BRE) is an internationally-recognized community economic development program with a goal to help businesses grow, overcome obstacles and seize opportunities.
Our BRE account executive contacts local existing businesses to schedule a visit with the owner or manager of the company. The client provides informed consent allowing the BRE account executive to input responses from the interview into an online database that will show summary data for statistical reporting purposes and is not company-specific. During the course of the BRE consultation, a specific issue, opportunity or challenge may be identified that may require further action and service from one or more partner organizations to respond to the identified business need. With client approval, a referral will be forwarded to appropriate. For more information on the BRE program, please visit www.nsarda.ca/bre.
A community profile for Cumberland County has been assembled and is available for viewing and downloading on the CREDA website. The entire profile is available in a “pdf” format. In addition, various sections of the profile, such as demographics and labour force data can be viewed and downloaded separately.
The CREDA board, staff, and partners would like to extend best wishes to one and all for a joyous holiday season and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
