Vacation Bible School coming up

Hi again from Downtown New Salem, I hope you’ve all had a great week and are enjoying the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer. It makes you want to sing, doesn’t it?

Alt Fletcher went to Halifax last week to visit with his son, Mark and his wife Dawn, and children Allix and Caily. Mark and his family were en route to his new posting with the embassy in London, England.Sharon and Deanne Esch of Amherst visited at their home here this past weekend. Myrna Shirley of Truro spent time at her home here over the past few weeks. Nicky and Tammy Bennett and children of Prince Edward Island spent the weekend visiting family and friends. On the weekend, Wally and Alice Rector celebrated their 50th Anniversary with family and friends at the Apple River Hall. Congratulations and best wishes to you both! I’d like to send out get well wishes to Geraldine Neves. Peter Ripley of Tokyo Japan is vacationing at his home here and will be having guests from Toronto, Tokyo, Washington and Halifax. On his flight here he enjoyed chatting with a flight attendant whose family are the Leblancs from Joggins. Small world, huh?Brandy Thompson and her children, Charley and Jade of Masstown, spent the weekend visiting here. Shelly Johnston of Halifax spent the weekend visiting her parents, Ellen and Floyd Johnston.

Vacation Bible School will be the week of July 26-30 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Advocate Baptist Church. All are welcome. There will be Bible stories, songs, games, snacks, crafts and fun.

On Friday, July 20, we will be making monkey houses at the library from 11 a.m. to noon. Please call me at 291-2214 to register.

On Saturday, July 31 the annual Strawberry Shortcake Tea will be held at Chignecto Manor beginning at 2 p.m. with musical entertainment.

It’s time to mark Aug. 14 weekend on your calendar, as that will be the annual Bazaar weekend. There will be a variety show on Thursday, Aug. 12, an auction on Friday, Aug. 13 and parade, canteen, games of chance, horseshoe tournament, musical entertainment and more plus a ham and salad supper and Bingo, quilt display, and vendors inside the school on Saturday, Aug. 14.

On Tuesday, Aug. 10, the community luncheon will be held at the log building on Mills Road at noon. On the menu this month will be casseroles, dessert, tea and coffee. Everyone is welcome!

On Sunday we had a family and friends picnic at Spicers Cove. Attending were myself, Alt Fletcher, Leighann and Barry Melanson of Advocate, Thaine Hazel of Parrsboro, Rachel Collins and her children Emma, Adam, Mikayla and Faith of Parrsboro, Cynthia Curtis and her grandaughter Jody of New Salem, Tim and Nancy Bruce of New Salem, Jim MacKinnon of New Salem, Sharon and Lindsay Corbin of Massachusettes, Brenda and Bud MacDonald of Vancouver, B.C., Lela Field of Parrsboro, Gary Matthews and his children Sara and James from England, Rick and Marily MacKinnon of West Advocate, Ina and Doug Spicer of West Advocate. The day for this was absolutely beautiful, a wonderful breeze made it so that there were no bugs. We’ll be doing this again in August.
