June 4

Open house

An open house celebration will be held at Sunset Industries, Pugwash, from

noon to 3 p.m. Refreshments served and door prizes. Special ceremony at 1:30 p.m.


A lobster and ham take-out supper will be held at Sunrise Trinity United Church in Amherst Head from 3 to 4 p.m. Cost is $20 for lobster (2), and $8 ham. To order, call 661-4002 or 667-9879.

Farmer of the Year

The Cumberland County Federation of Agriculture will present its Farmer of the Year Award and “Bounty of the County” free banquet of local food, 6 p.m., Nappan Experimental Farm. Meet and greet 4 p.m. Come and enjoy good food and entertainment.

Scrapbooking Day

A special scrapbooking day will be held at the GOVRC workshop in Springhill from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to raise money for Jason Rhindress, a workshop client, who wants to participate in the Special Olympics in London, Ont. in July. Cost $25.

Bake Sale

A bake sale will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Ottawa House Museum, with ice cream, hotdogs and pop available.

Craft, Bake and Rummage Sale

There will be a craft, bake and rummage sale at the Brookdale Hall, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Proceeds to go to the hall.

Plant, Bake and Rummage Sale

The Parrsboro Band Hall will host a plant, bake and rummage sale, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Set up is June 4, 6-8 p.m. To reserve a table, phone 254-3674.

Spring Sale

The Millvale United Church Women are sponsoring a Spring Sale at the Collingwood fire hall, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a bake table, crafts, clothings, etc. Lunch is available.

Bottle Drive

The 1st Fenwick Beavers/Cubs/Scouts will be collecting refundables in the local areas (Fenwick, Amherst Pt., Brookdale, Hastings) for the annual bottle drive. For more info call 667-1831 or 664-8158.


A bowling benefit will be held for Lorraine LeBlanc at the King Pin Bowling centre from 9 p.m. to midnight.

June 6

Musical Evening

A musical evening will be held at the Little River Baptist Church at 7 p.m. with Daybreak. Refreshments to follow.

Hymn Sing

Celebration/memorial hymn sing,

Collingwood United Church, 2 p.m.

Refreshments following.


153rd anniversary of the Mapleton United Church and 85th Anniversary of United Church of Canada at 7 p.m. Special music by The Fellas Acapella Group. Luncheon to Follow. Everyone welcome.

Opening Day

At 1 p.m., bagpipers and guest speakers will precede the unveiling of Jamie Heap’s book History in Miniature at Heritage Models in River Hebert. Performances by The Hawkes Sister Fiddlers, Liz Dowe, Megan Maclean and Bridget Michels. Free lunch - donations welcome.

Musical Evening

There will be a musical evening featuring special guests and lunch at the Brookdale Church at 7 p.m. Free will offering.


The Parrsboro Golf Club is hosting a brunch, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy lunch on its own, or get a deal on lunch and nine holes of golf.

Annual Meeting

Annual meeting of the Southampton Cemetery Society will be held at 7 p.m. at the Southampton Recreation Centre.

Annual General Meeting

Annual general meeting, Amherst Assoc. for Healthy Adolescent Sexuality ( Teen Health Centre ), 6:30 p.m., ARHS Food Lab. Speaker: Dr. Don Langille, Faculty of Medicine, Dalhousie University who will speak on recent youth-related research.


The annual meeting of the Tidnish Bridge Riverside Cemetary Society will be held at the Tidnish Bridge Fire Hall at 7 p.m.

June 8

Community Luncheon

The Log Building in Advocate Harbour will play host at noon to a community luncheon. Menu - casseroles, dessert, tea and coffee. Everyone Welcome.


The Dorchester, N.B., Shiretown Day Festival begins and runs until June 13. The theme is Medieval. Highlights throughout the event include an auction, bingo, stunt bikes, ATV pulls. The parade is June 12 at 2 p.m.

Fundy Senior Games

The Fundy Senior Games will begin at the Amherst Fire Hall and the Amherst 50+ Club, opening at 8 a.m. today and

Annual Meeting

The annual meeting of hte Shinimicas United Church and Cemetery Committee will be held at 7 p.m. at the church. All welcome.

June 10

Soup Kitchen

Community Soup Kitchen serving free soup and sandwiches at the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Amherst (basement).11 a.m. - 2 p.m. All welcome.
