Spring fair well received
Hi again from Downtown New Salem. I hope you’ve all had a great week.
Donnie and Sherry Fletcher went to Maine for a weekend getaway.
Alt Fletcher of Truro has returned to his home here for the summer. Welcome back, Uncle Alt.
The annual spring fair that was held on Saturday at the Advocate school was a great success. Great fun was had by all the children and adults alike. Great job to all the students, staff and everyone that helped to make it such a successful day for everyone.
The Wild Caraway Restaurant is re-opening on Friday, May 7. They will be having a Mother’s Day Special. They will also be closed on Monday and Tuesdays for the month of May. It’s great to see you open again, Sarah and Andrew.
On Friday, May 7, Spencer’s Island Bingo will be held at the Advocate Fire Hall, starting at 7 p.m.
On Tuesday, May 11, the community luncheon will be held at the log building at noon.
On the menu will be baked ham, scallop potatoes, corn scallop, dessert, tea and coffee. The luncheon is available for all members of the community.
It’s a great time for some social time with old friends and new friends.
On Saturday, May 15, the Chignecto and Area ATV Club will be holding a poker rally. Registration is from 9-11 a.m. at the log building on Mills Road in Advocate Harbour.
Registration fees are $10 for ATVANS members and $15 for non-members. Lunch will be available for sale.

On Tuesday, May 18, Prize Bingo will be held at the Advocate school at 7 p.m.
The IWK Walk-a-thon will be held on Friday, May 21. Walkers will leave the school parking lot at 12:45 p.m. and walk to Cape Chignecto Park entrance (elementary students as far as Driftwood Park Retreat Road) and back to the school. Sponsor sheets will be given to students in the near future.
Church Services for the Advocate United Church will be held on Sunday, May 9 and Sunday, May 23 at 2 p.m. Wayne Jarvis will be the speaker.
The elementary prom has been scheduled for Friday, May 28 for children ages one to 11. Pictures will be taken from 5:45 to 6:15 p.m., followed by the dance from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m.
Admission is $5 each, which includes snacks and drinks. Proceeds are for the elementary class trip funds.
A bottle drive will be held on Saturday, May 29, with pick-up beginning at 9 a.m.
You may put your recyclables at the end of your driveway, or you can also drop them off at Mike Berry’s enviro depot in advance if this more convenient for you. Proceeds are for the Grades 6/7 class trip.
I am now selling Parrsboro Radio Bingo Cards. If you have high speed service you can play online at home or if you wish you can come to the library on Thursday evenings starting April 15th to play.
Bingo is from 6-7 p.m. The cards are $3 for a book of two cards for five games.
If you want to lose weight TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets every Monday night at the Advocate Fire Hall at 7 p.m.
