Church to hold fashion show
Greetings from Brookdale
We have had a few beautiful days but the weather network is forecasting about two weeks of rain. However, it is supposed to clear for the Highland Fling and Mother’s Day. There will be lots of flowers, cakes and other good things available for Mother’s Day, opportunities to win prizes, good food and many food and fun events as well.
There will be clowns and many fun things for the young folk as well. Come out and enjoy. Funds raised will be used to purchase special equipment for our hospital.
First off, I have to say that the date for the Spring Fashion Show at Trinity St. Stephen’s is on Wednesday, May 5. My brain, my eyes or my fingers were scattered when I hit May 8 last week. At least I have time to correct it. May is a busy, busy month.
Faye MacDonald, a cousin of ours from Toronto (our mothers were sisters) came down for a visit. She wanted to see her cousin, Marilyn Conklin, who is having cancer treatments, and other family members, especially her sisters Debbie Smith and Jean Bentley. She attended the funeral of her aunt, Kathleen Mitchell, and also had the opportunity to see many more cousins.
The McCully Pastoral Charge, which includes Fenwick and the Nappan congregations, held a combined service at 9:30 a.m. at Brookdale United Church this past Sunday with a great choir and lots of good music. The loose offering raised $220 for Camp Ta-Wa-Si.
Button tickets will be sold at the farmer’s market on Friday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Fenwick United Church held a spring festival and tea this past Saturday. There was one pumpkin pie left so I bought it and it was delicious, and so was the chocolate cake we had for dessert. I enjoyed seeing so many of my cousins and the only aunt I have left, Pauline Read.
The Joggins United Church will hold its 86th anniversary service on Sunday, May 2 at 6:30 p.m. “The Fellas” who are fabulous by the way, will present special music and the Rev. Christine MacLeod will also share her love of music. Tea, coffee and cake will follow the service. We send out our love and prayers to Kay Brown, who will be in Halifax for surgery. We pray for a fast recovery.
The Brookdale United Church will be holding a fashion show on Thursday, May 20, 7 p.m. at the Cumberland North Academy in Brookdale. There will be special desserts, tea and coffee, and the cost will be $10. Tickets will be available from members soon. More information will be available as plans are finalized. Funds raised will be used for the basement renovations at the Brookdale church.
We have applied for grants so we have to raise matching funds. We are happy to have so many out to our 9:30 services on Sunday mornings. We have a great choir, pianist and ministers and our door is open to all and we invite all those in the area to join in with us.
The Nappan United Church will hold its annual yard sale on Saturday, May 1 at the usual time. On Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 9, they will hold their Sunday School closing. Following the service there will be a barbecue and Sunday lunch.
The Nappan/Maccan Unified Board is called to meet Monday, May 10 at 7 p.m. at the church.
Fenwick United Church will hold its anniversary service on Sunday evening, May 16 at 7 p.m. This will be the only service that day.
The McCully Pastoral Charge Council is called to meet on Wednesday, May 19 at 7 p.m. at the Fenwick United Church.
Several from the community attended the Little River Baptist 163rd anniversary service on Sunday evening. We were delighted to hear the Fun Tones under the direction of Rosemary Donkin and special selections were sung by Olive Jackson’s granddaughter, Erica Wilson. We enjoyed the music and the service and, of course, the food and seeing neighbours and friends.
