In a brief campaign stop in New Glasgow this morning, NDP leader Darrell Dexter announced that if elected, his party will create 250 new seats in Nova Scotia Community College campuses across the province.
Dexter, flanked by local NDP candidates, says the seats will help reduce community college waiting lists that have risen in the past few years. The NSCC campus in Stellarton, for instance, already has line-ups for training in nin trades.
The new seats will also help to fill skill shortages, he added.
"Our plan will increase access to training in trades and professions that are in the highest demand, with the flexibility that becomes possible with more seats," Dexter said. "As a result, these new skills will directly translate into new jobs. The kind of jobs that will help address the looming skills shortage that worries so many business leaders in this province."
