TIDNISH - A woman with great community spirit will be remembered here Tuesday, as the third annual Betty MacLean Concert for Cancer hits the stage.
"Betty MacLean was a good friend," said Larry Ogden, a member of Pic 'N Grin, who along with special guests the Uniacke Ramblers, will bring their flavour of bluegrass, gospel and country music to the stage at the Tidnish Community Centre at 7 p.m.
"She was a great volunteer," said Ogden. "If she worked that day, she would volunteer that night. She was always the one to say, 'OK, we can do that.'"
Last year's event raised $700 for the Canadian Cancer Society and Ogden said they are hoping to top that figure. Doors open at 6 p.m. While the event is named for MacLean, Ogden said the Pic 'N Grin band has since added the names of Clare Kaufman and Doug Hanes to the event.
Ogden said they were great supporters of the band's many fundraisers.
"If they couldn't make the show, they always brought a donation over beforehand," he explained. "It's nice to be able to remember these people every year. It's nice to have a memory to look back on."
Other members of Pic 'N Grin include: Ruth Shearer, Eileen Lewis, Naomi Doncaster, Kyle Legere, Nick Legere, Dave Dewitt and Reg Chapman.
The event will also feature door prizes and a 50/50 draw.
