WALLACE Residents and businesses in Wallace are inviting everyone to come out and enjoy an old-fashioned country Christmas celebration.

Dozens of events, a parade and holiday shopping specials will be offered in the small rural community during an all-day holiday event Dec. 7.

Its an opportunity for the community to gather together with friends or meet new people and to visit each business and see whats new, said JoAnne Craib, a member of the event organizing committee.

From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. there will be horse-drawn wagon rides sponsored by Charmans Home Hardware and the Wallace Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

A scallop potato and ham supper will be held at the Masonic Hall from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The cost is $6 per person.

The community hall will be open from noon to 7:30 p.m., with craft tables, raffle draws and music of the season. Cambra Sands is sponsoring childrens games and activities with lots of prizes at the hall. St. Matthews Presbyterian Church will be hosting a craft and bake sale with complimentary apple cider. Anyone wishing to book a craft table can contact Doris Purdy at 257-2354.

There will be a carol sing at St. Johns United Church and hot apple cider will be served starting at 6 p.m. followed by the lighting of the fifth annual Light the Spirit Campaign Christmas Trees and Angels at 6:45 p.m.

Members of the Northumberland Chorale music group will be singing Christmas carols around the community Christmas tree at the hall, starting at 6:45 p.m.

A festive street parade, featuring mini horses, floats, fire trucks, Santa Claus and much more will start at the school yard at 7:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for best float. Canada Post representatives will be collecting letters to be sent to Santa Claus along the parade route and Girl Guides will be collecting donations for the local food bank.

To participate in the parade, call Denise Gullens at 257-2441.

Fireworks on the waterfront will follow the parade. Miniature horses will be on display in front of Langilles Meats.

Hot chocolate and treats supplied by Tim Hortons Childrens Camp will be served near the community hall, and the Wallace Sparks and Brownies will host a number of fundraisers at the hall.

In the event of a major storm the Christmas celebration will be held on Dec. 13.
