WALLACE - The Wallace River Baptist Church, on Hwy 368 has just been established as a collection centre for the Operation Christmas Child organization.

We are responsible for the North Shore, from Amherst to River John, including Wentworth, Bonnie Langille, co-ordinator of the drive, said.

We have been very involved in this in our church for about eight years. Springhill United Baptist is the other location in our county that has been well established for 12 or more years, that covers the eastern and southern areas, she added.

The two churches are once again working together to ensure children everywhere have a great Christmas by getting a box of goodies through the generosity of people in all the communities throughout the region.

Its not about the churches. Its really about the children who receive a gift of love, hope and the good news that God loves them, Langille said.

Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritans Purse, has begun its 15th year of hand-delivering shoe boxes filled with toys, hygiene items and school supplies to children effected by war, poverty, disease and natural disaster around the world.

Since 1993, participants have donated over 54 million shoeboxes from 11 participating countries and Operation Christmas Child has delivered the gifts to children in 125 nations around the world. Last year alone, Canadians generously donated 738,079 gift-filled shoeboxes part of the 7.6 million collected worldwide in 2006.

This year, gifts will be collected from Nov. 5 to 10 at collection centres across Canada. Operation Christmas Child is calling on children, families, churches, businesses, schools, scout troops and civic organizations to join this massive effort to bring joy and hope to needy children abroad.

Join the celebration by encouraging businesses, churches, communities and friends to pack shoeboxes.

Items can be dropped off at the Wallace River Baptist Church and the Springhill United Baptist Church from Nov. 5 to 10. Additional locations can be found at www.samaritanspurse.ca, or by calling 1-800-303-1269.
