AMHERST Cumberland Countys Wishmaker Parade is set for Oct. 13 and organizers are looking for resident to help make this years Childrens Wish Foundation event bigger and better than ever.

We have 16 Wish families in Cumberland County right now, said co-organizer Anna Legere.

A Wish family is the child and his or her parents siblings and sometimes grandparents. Legere said having the families involved in the program is key.

Thats how the memories are made, she said.

In keeping with the foundations mission, Every child enjoys an enhanced quality of life including the experience of laughter, shared joy and memories with the important people in their lives.

The Childrens Wish Foundation grants wishes to children with high-risk, life-threatening illnesses.

As for the parade, Legere says its all about the children.

The more people we have involved the better, said Legere, who is joined as co-organizer by Angela Warham. The parade is mainly the kids but if there are floats or others out there that want to be involved wed be happy to take them.

The more people who walk the parade route the more awareness we raise.

Individuals or businesses that would like to enter a float, make a donation or those who wish to volunteer or help with refreshments are asked to contact Legere at 597-8607 or 667-7001, or Warham at 597-8441 or 667-7006.

Donations can also be made the day of the parade along the route.

The Childrens Wish Foundation has granted 28 wishes in the Cumberland/Colchester district. The first in Cumberland County was 1990 when a boy received his wish of a trip to Disney World.
