The Ladies Division of the Amherst Golf and Country Club will be hosting a closing scramble, banquet and general annual meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 25.

AMHERST (Staff) - The Ladies Division of the Amherst Golf and Country Club will be hosting a closing scramble, banquet and general annual meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 25.

The scramble will take place in the afternoon starting at noon followed by the banquet at 6 p.m. and the AGM slated to commence at 7 p.m.



Atom AAA Tryouts

SPRINGHILL (Staff) - Tryouts for the CCMHA Atom AAA Ramblers will commence on Sunday, Sept. 16, from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. at the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre.

A second session is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 18, from 7 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, Sept. 20, from 7 to 8 p.m. The final session is set for Saturday, Sept. 22 and will be a game from 10 to 11:30 a.m. All sessions are in Springhill and will cost participants $5 per session.

All players must be registered prior to participating.

Fundy Phantoms fundraiser

sees students build shed

SPRINGHILL (Staff) - The Cumberland Campus of the Nova Scotia Community College is building an 8' x 12' shed for the Fundy Phantoms Junior C hockey club to raffle off.

Tickets are currently on sale from players and executive members with a draw date announced for Oct. 14.

Lumber for the project was donated by Hoeg Brothers Lumber in Athol and the work is being conducted by carpentry students at NSCC. The team is also obtaining a trailer for hauling equipment and this item is being built by Kevin Misken with supplies by MBB Power Services, Dr. Martin and additional materials from Home Hardware.



CCMHA registration

to commence Sept. 15

AMHERST (Staff) - Registration for the Cumblerand County Minor Hockey Association will commence this weekend, Saturday, Sept. 15, at th Amherst Stadium from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and Sunday, Sept. 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A session is also planned for Springhill on Sunday, Sept. 16, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

First-year players (all age levels - any player who has not played hockey before) will receive a discount rate of $175. Returning players will be charged $325 except for midget age players which will be $350.

A family rate - any family with three or more players is $775 (including two sets of fundraiser tickets) and any additional child is an extra $100.

These rates includes the $50 recoverable fundraising tickets.

Each player will be charged the $50 fundraiser and given 25 -$2 tickets to sell and when they sell these tickets they will keep the fee they were charged.

All players are reminded that they must be registered before trying out for any provincial team.



CCMHA seeking house league

coaches for 2007-08 campaign

AMHERST (Staff)  The Cumberland County Minor Hockey Association is seeking house league coaches for the upcoming season.

As well, it is looking for volunteers interested in being scorekeepers at the Amherst Stadium, Oxford Arena and the Richard Calder Arena in Springhill. Minor hockey is considering offering a small honorarium for those doing the scoring.

Midget AAA tryouts

commence Sept. 17

SPRINGHILL (Staff) - The D.W. Thompson Esso/Scotsburn Dairy Midget Ramblers will commene their 2007-08 season with tryouts here Monday, Sept. 17.

The first session will run from 7:30 to 9 p.m. while a second session has been scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 8:45 to 10:15 p.m. at the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre.

All players vying for spots must be registered with Cumberland County Minor Hockey Association before they can step on the ice.

Checking clinic, peewee

tryouts set for Sept. 17

SPRINGHILL (Staff) - All players entering peewee hockey for the first time are required to participate in a safety oriented checking clinic.

The first session will take place on Monday, Sept. 17 from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. for all first-year peewee players wishing to tryout for provincial hockey.

Anyone who does not attend may still go to tryouts but may not be able to participate fully, so it is highly recommended to attend.

Tryout dates for the CCMHA Peewee Ramblers are Sept. 21, 25 and 27, from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m.

All tryouts are in Springhill and there will be a $5 charge.

Inaugural Porter Memorial Golf

seeking entries for Sept. 29 event

AMHERST (Staff) - The inaugural Morgan Porter Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at the Amherst Golf Club on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost is $35 for Amherst Golf Club members and $65 for non-members. Entry fee is due at noon on Sept. 29.

Cumberland County Blues

season tickets on sale

SPRINGHILL (Staff) - The Cumberland County Ross Refrigeration Cool Blues are encouraging season ticket holders to purchase their passes for the 2007-2008 season as soon as possible.

Pass holders who renew their passes by Sept. 27 are able to reserve the same seat they held last season. After that date, the seat will not be held if the season pass has not been purchased.

Season ticket prices are $80 for adults; $65 for students and seniors and $35 for pre-school children.

Season passes are available from Don Laurie at 597-2071.
