The Oxford Lions Club has been actively weighing its options over the last two months to find the right company to supply new playground equipment for the Lions Park. Theyve chosen Little Tikes to supply the equipment.

We saw a need for a new playground, said Lions playground committee member Tom Kay. Theres a lot of kids in the area and theres more and more people coming in here off the highway and we want the Lions Park to be attractive.

Kay also said that the current equipment is not safe for kids and the new equipment will have rubber padding on the ground so if and when someone falls off the new apparatus, the chance theyll get hurt will be reduced. Itll also be wheelchair accessible.

In addition to a new playground, the Lions will be at the park this weekend for a wholesale cleanup as they get ready to clear a walking trail along the parks perimeter. New benches will be placed around the area for people to rest during a hike.

The Lions are looking for donations and corporate support to help with the $75,000 price tag on the playground. Theyre currently targeting June 2008 for an official unveiling.

Scott OReilly from Little Tikes will be at the park again on June 23 to introduce the official design for the new playground. The Lions will be hosting a barbecue from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to promote the project and encourage the community to attend. Children eat free.
