Dog lovers, be advised: youll get your fix this weekend.

Thats because the Tantramar Kennel Club will be hosting its annual Dog Show here at the Tantramar Regional Civic Centre.

"Its a chance to see dogs from all over Eastern Canada all in one place, see them compete, see whats available, and see breeds you dont normally see," said Joann Dnistransky, secretary for the Tantramar Kennel Club. "You see in the arena close-up what you see on TV watching the Westminster (dog show)."

This years event consists of eight different shows in two categories: confirmation and obedience.

"Confirmation is more like a beauty pageant where obedience is more for the brains, like whether a dog will do what its told and execute the pattern," Dnistransky said.

This years event has a jam-packed schedule. The confirmation presentations are filled to capacity with 175 dogs registered in each of the four shows. Fifteen dogs are currently signed up for each of the obedience events. Sixty-four breeds will be represented.

She said there should be dogs here for the show from at least as far away as Ontario. Some Americans often make the trip here to compete as well.

Because of the shows diversity, there will be judges in attendance from Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec.

Dnistransky said they bring in judges from outside this region "to ensure we have a good cross section of judges who have seen dogs elsewhere.

"It gives us a better perspective of what Canadian dogs should be."

In addition to the show, there will be venders on hand to sell their dog products, including toys, blankets, food, treats, grooming brushes, and shampoos.

"Thats where I do most of my Christmas shopping (for my dogs)," she said.

The fun starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday and 9:10 a.m. on Sunday.
