Were looking forward to another successful auction, Robert Angel said. Weve been very fortunate over the years to have the support of so many community-minded business owners whove donated items to the auction each year.

When the Amherst Rotary Club first held its fundraising auction in 1955 it probably had no idea the event would grow to become one of the clubs most lucrative ways of supporting various community endeavours.

From raising just over $2,000 in the 1960s, the auction has grown in recent years to include more than 530 items raising more than $20,000 annually. Since 1985, more than $300,000 has been raised through the annual event.

Proceeds go to support numerous community programs, the largest of which is Camp Tidnish. Funds will also be used to support the clubs newest project, the Rotary Centennial Park on Willow Street, along with other projects such as youth scholarships, youth exchanges and the Rotary van.

Phone lines open both days at 4:30 p.m. for pre-auction bids. The live auction begins at 5:30 p.m. on EastLink and 6:05 p.m. on CKDH.

Items 1 to 239 will be read twice and sold on the third round, along with the first half of the specials, on Monday with items 240 to 436 being read twice and sold on Tuesday, with the second half of the specials.

Bids will be taken on super specials on both nights and will be sold last on Tuesday.
