Students get tips for success
AMHERST -Students at NSCC Cumberland campus and NSCC and small business owners alike listened intently to a business success panel at the Wandlyn Inn in Amherst on Tuesday as they gave pointers as to what may help them when entering into a business venture.
One member of the panel, Randy Smith, told the students the three key things needed to enter into business are, a lawyer, and accountant and a banker.
The students gained many tips from the panel and small business owners in attendance such as customer service being crucial to a small business, along with shop-at-home marketing and honesty with customers.
NDP candidate optimistic
AMHERST - If the results of last summer's provincial election are any indication, New Democrats across Cumberland-Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley have reason to be optimistic.
Mark Austin, NDP candidate in the upcoming federal byelection, is a wild blueberry farmer and environmental and social policy consultant from Old Barns.
He said now, more than ever, there's a strong feeling across northern Nova Scotia that someone other than the traditional Conservative needs to represent the region.
Austin will be one of five candidates seeking votes on Nov. 9.
Skate park needed
AMHERST - A skateboard park has moved a little closer to fruition with a consultant saying such a facility would be viable within the Town of Amherst.
Speaking to members of Amherst town council during its October committee-of-the-whole meeting on Monday, Bill Gurney of LANDinc said the park is long overdue.
Following Gurney's recommendations, council asked town staff to prepare funding applications to the provincial and federal governments.
