AMHERST - About 3,000 Nova Scotia Power customers were without power for more than an Friday after a brief outage in the northeastern end of Cumberland County.

Stacey Pineau, spokeswoman for NSP, said some homes and businesses on the eastern edge of town through to the Tidnish, Amherst Shore, Northport and Shinimicas areas lost power due to a burnt recloser - a device that senses a fault in the line and shuts down.

She said finding the problem was difficult due to the large geographic area affected by the outage, but power was restored short after 5 p.m.
