SYDNEY, N.S. - A group promoting the construction of a container terminal in Cape Breton says it will announce a major development this week.
The Sydney Ports Corp. says the announcement will be "unprecedented in the history of the ports of Sydney and entirely unique to the international shipping industry."
The corporation also says the news will have significant trade implications for Nova Scotia and Canada.
A news conference will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday by members of the Sydney Marine Group.
The group has issued a request for proposals in a $35-million harbour dredging project, which would open Sydney to the largest container ships.
The group has also been seeking investors for a proposed container terminal at an estimated cost of $200 million.
