OXFORD - New growth means it was a positive year for the Town of Oxford in 2009.
The year ended with Oxford Regional Elementary students and staff leaving for their old school for the last time over the Christmas holidays. The new school opens for the students this week.
Oxford saw many new transformations throughout the town in 2009, including a new walkway crossing the Black River, upgrades to water and sewer at various locations in the town, a reconstruction of Main Street, major renovations to the arena, a new office building ready for occupation.
Oxford's mayor Lloyd Jenkins says the construction within the town has created a more positive attitude and shows people have confidence in Oxford.
"With the opening of the new school I'm sure we'll see more families moving to Oxford," the mayor said.
"There has been a boost in residential construction as well," Jenkins said.
"Two new four-unit apartment complexes have been built, one is already occupied and the other building is close to completion."
The mayor said the new construction over the 2009 year is a wonderful addition to the town and with Oxford growing predicts 2010 to be another good year for the town.
