HALIFAX — Encana Corp. (TSX:ECA) says natural gas is now being exported from the Deep Panuke project off Nova Scotia.
But spokeswoman Lori MacLean says it will be a couple of weeks before the offshore platform is producing a steady flow of gas.
The Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board gave Encana the green light Aug. 2 to begin shipping gas to its production field centre offshore and ultimately to market.
The federal-provincial regulator said it issued the authorization after reviewing the Calgary-based company’s readiness for operations.
The project has been plagued by delays since receiving regulatory approval in 2007.
It was initially supposed to go into production by late 2010.
Dutch-based SBM Offshore owns and operates the platform on behalf of Encana.
