HALIFAX - A spokesperson for Target Canada says three stores in HRM will be open for business in the near future – nearly two years after the takeover of Zellers locations.

“We haven’t confirmed an exact opening date just yet but are still track to open our first stores…in Halifax this fall,” said Lisa Gibson in an email.
Target announced the takeover of hundreds of Zellers leases from the Hudson’s Bay Company in January 2011. Since then, the stores – including those in Mic Mac Mall, Bedford Place Mall and Bayers Lake – have been closed and extensively renovated for their reinvention as Target locations.
The general manager of Mic Mac Mall said anticipation of the mega-retailer’s opening is building among the mall’s customers.
“Everyone’s really excited about them opening in the fall,” said Chris Keillor. “A lot of people call us about Target opening.”
Hundreds of locals turned out for Target job fairs in June, and dozens of people in Target uniforms have been seen at Bedford Place Mall and MicMac in recent weeks.
“We have hired our team members and are in the process of training,” said Gibson. “Very exciting time for us as we prepare to open stores for the first time in Atlantic Canada.”
She said an update on the openings could come in early September.
