The home support worker has more than a decade of experience in the field, and recognizes the importance of the profession â especially in an ageing society.
âIâlove it,â Seward said during the grand opening of CareGivers in Corner Brook Wednesday. âI think it is very fulfilling to make a difference in somebodyâs life â that they are leading a better quality of life because of your support and care.â
The agency that provides homecare and residential services to people in various locations in the province opened its doors in Corner Brook this year. The organization held a grand opening at its Main Street office Wednesday.
The nationally accredited business is hoping to help fill the demand within the local area for home support workers. Seaward is working in Deer Lake, where she recognizes the ever-increasing need for the services she offers.
âA lot of families are trying to cope with their being the caregivers, and they need relief from their daily responsibilities,â she said.
âA lot of other people are completely on their own, and need support in doing daily activities. Other people need 24-hour support around the clock.â
CareGivers has two offices in St. Johnâs, one in Placentia, and also another new location in Grand Falls-Windsor. The agency also offers clinical services and home care for children and youth, besides home support for adults.
Heather Shears, regional home care manager, said there is a huge need for home support in the area.
âEven in Corner Brook and the surrounding areas, a lot of our population is getting older,â he said. âUnfortunately, at some point in our lives, it is something most of us will have to consider â some sort of home support.â
Being the only nationally accredited home support agency in the province, she said the key is not only providing the service, but ensuring it is quality service.
âThat is exactly what we stand for, and exactly what people need,â she said.
