Ferry rates increase for 2013 season

Northumberland Ferries begins its Wood Islands, P.E.I. to Caribou, Nova Scotia ferry service May 1.

It will cost more to take the ferry across the Northumberland Strait this year unless you are walking aboard.

The 2013 PEI ferry schedule for the run between Wood Islands, P.E.I. and Caribou, N.S. has been released showing the season will once again run from May 1 to Dec. 20.

The fee for automobiles up to 6’6’’ is increasing to $67.50 from $66. Auto trailer/camper ranges from $67.50 (up from $66) for up to 20 feet to $109 (up from $107) for auto trailer/ camper greater than 50 feet.

Motorcycles remain at $40 and motorcycles with trailer and/or sidecar remains at $45. Pedaling aboard on a bicycle will again cost $20.

The rate for mini buses jump from $174 to $178 while there is no increase on last year’s fee of $398 for a bus.

The rates for trucks/tractor trailers range from $67.50 this year (up from $66) for up to 20 feet to $183 (up from $179) for greater than 70 feet.

Bus tour round trip rate (bus and passengers) remains at $398.

Rates for walk on passengers also remain unchanged: $17 for passengers age 13 to 59, $15 for seniors age 60 and up and free for children 12 years and under.

The number of crossings will be the same as last year with five each either way from May 1 to June 15, seven crossings between June 16 and June 27, nine crossings between June 28 and Sept. 2, seven crossings between Sept. 3 and Oct. 7, five between Oct. 8 and Nov. 9, four between Nov. 10 and Nov. 30, and three crossings between Dec. 1 and Dec. 20.
