Partners with the chamber of commerce had information tables set up so chamber members could find out about the different discounts they are entitled to by paying their membership fee.
AMHERST – The chamber of commerce held a membership meeting Tuesday afternoon at the Amherst Fire Hall to introduce their members to some of the discounts they receive with their annual membership fee.
Chamber executive assistant, Patty Colson, said some members may not be aware of the perks they are entitled to.
“We’ve found that many of our members don’t take advantage of the many benefits that are included in their membership fee,” said Colson. “Some are free and some are discounted services.”
Many of the partners involved were at the fire hall with information tables set up for members to browse through.
Members are able to have discounts in advertising, gas cards and insurance, to name a few, but Colson said many of their members still don’t take advantage of the offers.
“I think it’s just they’re not aware that it is already included in their membership fees that they pay to the chamber,” she said. “That’s why we’re hosting tonight to help people understand and people are here to help members sign up for programs if that’s what they’re interested in.”
Jolean Hawkes, with Johnston Insurance, one of the chambers partners, had an information table set up at the meeting. She said she’s noticed a lot of the members not taking advantage of the discounts offered by the chamber’s partners.
“With us anyway, a lot of the members aren’t aware of it because we haven’t done a lot of direct mailings,” said Hawkes.
Hawkes said one of the problems for members of the chamber not knowing about the advantages of the discounts is because the partners aren’t doing enough direct mailing.
“We’re going to work really hard to make sure it’s out there for everyone so that they are aware of it,” added Hawkes’ co-worker, Sue Hunter. “It’s a matter that the customers out there may no realize the benefits they could have as being a member of the chamber of commerce.”
