[HALIFAX, NS] — Nova Scotia's premier says he has reviewed an untendered lease deal involving the move of the provincial Fisheries Department from Halifax to Cornwallis and is satisfied the file appears to be in order.

Darrell Dexter says he will release details today, but he told reporters the lease was handled appropriately by the department officials.

He says it's clear that bureaucrats weighed their options and considered alternatives before acting.

Dexter unexpectedly put the $289,000 deal on hold last week after the opposition parties questioned whether the 10-year lease with the non-profit Cornwallis Park Development Association was a wise use of public money.

The association recently bought the property for $162,500, according to an online property listing.

The opposition parties say the lease should have been put to tender.

I agree with the Opposition Leader. All Nova Scotians should have the right to the tender process when it is public funding. Who's on the Board of Directors of the non-profit and what is there mandate?
