AMHERST – Some Tim Horton’s customers might take issue with Kittee Baxter’s claim.

“Robin’s makes better coffee,” said the manager of the new Robin’s Donuts franchise, located at the Pharmasave plaza on Robert Angus Drive.

The work site was busy this afternoon. It's expected to open tomorrow. Final preparations were being made to the location, and staff members were behind the counter training.

“Most of them are here today…we got a good bunch,” said Baxter of her new employees.

Bart Butler, the franchise owner, is also the landlord. He said the recently-constructed building that houses the coffee shop, and other businesses,  “(cost) well in excess of a million dollars.”

Other tenants include pt Health, which is already open, as well as BelTone Hearing and Medi-Gas.

“We’re going to be about 70 per cent occupied here,” he said.

Construction went smoothly, with minimal hurdles.

“No, nothing major,” said Butler.

Robin’s has a drive-thru, with an entrance from the parking lot as well as off the road. Butler said they did some research to try and ensure the purchase point doesn’t clog traffic.

Baxter was asked what she thought would be franchise’s focus competing with the ‘other’ restaurant: product, price or service.

She said their prices are competitive, but service and product are where they want to stand out.
