[TRURO, NS] — More than 200 employees at Crossley Carpet have signed a new three-year deal with their employer — Tandus Inc.

The agreement was recently ratified with a vote of 74.2 per cent of the CAW Local 4612's 213 employees.

Negotiations started in April and lasted nine days over a course of three months.

The employees were given the new terms of their collective agreement during a three-hour meeting.

"Wages, benefits and pensions, job security - they were all major issues in these negotiations," said Emma Campbell, recording secretary for the employees' negotiating committee. "There was a little bit of give and take by both sides all the way through, but we feel we worked out a really good deal. The committee felt strongly that if we recommended the deal (the workers) would accept it."
