NUUK, Denmark - The Faroe Islands and Greenland are hoping to resume talks over shrimp quotas after Canada closed its ports to their fishing boats today.
A spokeswoman for the Greenland government, Rosa Thorsen, says all parties are trying to arrange a meeting to resolve the matter.
Federal Fisheries Minister Gail Shea announced the ban Sunday citing the refusal by the Danish territories to accept internationally set quotas for shrimp in waters east of Newfoundland.
The Danish territories have unilaterally set a quota of 3,101 tonnes, almost 10 times greater than the quota set by the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization.
