HALIFAX - A Conservative member of the Nova Scotia legislature who apologized last week for spending nearly $8,000 on a generator also charged taxpayers over $3,000 for the purchase and installation of a television.
Richard Hurlburt's name was included on a list of politicians who, according to the province's auditor general, used public money inappropriately or excessively.
The list was released by the Speaker's Office today after an order by Premier Darrell Dexter.
Hurlburt did not disclose the expense when he admitted to buying the generator, which was installed at his Yarmouth area home for $7,995.
The expense was one of several flagged in a report released last week by auditor general Jacques Lapointe.
Lapointe blamed lax and unclear rules surrounding members' expenses for the questionable claims.
Dexter says legislation will be introduced to replace the all-party board that regulates members' expenses with a commission that will meet publicly.

This is so appalling that it hardly warrants a comment. However saying nothing is like condoning this blatent act of deceipt and misuse of we the taxpayers money.
Ask yourself....What would happen to a regular employee who was caught stealing or mis-appropriating money's from their employer. They would be dismissed immediately and possibly charged with a criminal act that is what!! Would they still be entitleed to a company pension....no.....they may get to keep their personal contribution but that would be it.
Why should these politicians and MLA's be any different. A simple apology just does not cut it. The whole political structure is reeking with corruption and someone needs to step up be a leader and develop a code of ethics and strict rules for departmental expenditures just like a businesses does. Enough is enough!! -

This guy should be arrested and kicked out of his position as an mla, along with the rest of the mla's that abused the system. Any less would be a travesty.
