HALIFAX - A Nova Scotia government rebate program offering up to $7,000 on the purchase of a newly built home has reached its limit.
The program, which has approved 1,500 families for the rebate, was a key promise by the NDP during last spring's election campaign.
Service Nova Scotia Minister Ramona Jennex says applications will continue to be accepted until March 31 and those who qualify will be placed on a waiting list.
Officials say should anyone currently approved withdraw or not meet program requirements, then the rebate will go to the next applicant on the waiting list.
The rebate is equivalent to 50 per cent of the provincial portion of the HST to a maximum of $7,000.
Applicants for the one-time rebate must have completed construction or closed the sale on a new home by March 31.
