INGERSOLL, Ont. - As many as 300 salaried employees at GM's Cami plant in Ingersoll, Ont., could be out of a job come the spring.
A GM spokeswoman wouldn't confirm any planned cuts, but sources say the workers were warned about them at a meeting on Dec. 10.
But Jennifer Wright acknowledges salaried employees were warned there would "likely be some impact" of GM's recent takeover of the plant from former partner Suzuki.
On Dec. 4, GM announced a $90 million investment at the plant and the recall of about 150 laid-off autoworkers.
GM bought out Suzuki Motor Corp.'s 50 per cent stake in the plant, taking sole ownership of the joint venture after 23 years.
That means it has duplicate departments at Canadian headquarters in Oshawa and in Ingersoll.
The Cami plant has capacity to make 250,000 vehicles a year and employs about 2,250 people.
